Embossed Treasures!

When you are on a roll, just go with it! I was so inspired by my little metal blanks the other day, that I just went with it and created a whole series of these Embossed Treasures! I love making things change from what they originally were, so the inspiration was not lacking!
You just never know where imagination will take you! I was making these awhile ago and had stopped. Not sure why, but it was nice to revisit and start again! I will be able to fill my shop with these beauties and hopefully send them away to their new homes soon.
Have a look in my Etsy shop for the whole series! I hope to finish all the different ones I started soon and so keep coming back to take a look! You never know what you will find!!

Thanks so much for stopping by!

A New Attitude

{A New Attitude- available on Etsy}
When I was young, skinny and into driving 40 minutes to the nearest mall, I would head straight for The Limited. They had all the trendiest fashions for a girl in the 80s. A lot has changed since I was 16 but The Limited is still around. Unfortunately, I don't feel that I can fit in there, figuratively and literally. I am not a size that can easily walk into a store like that and find something off the rack. But this past week I discovered that The Limited has launched an online website called Eloquii by The Limited that features beautiful fashions in plus sizes.

I am usually one who wears very monochromatic looks, no pattern whatsoever. I am more of a jeans and t-shirt girl on most days. But I am strangely attracted to the bright colors, shorter skirts, graphic prints and very polished accessories that Eloquii is offering. (And I just took advantage of their sale to pick up 5 sweaters for under $60! Fashionable and frugal!)

While poking around I found this one outfit that could use some awesome earrings. So I created my A New Attitude earrings (above) inspired by this look to bring a bit more funk to this already rocking ensemble. These long 4 1/2" earrings are made from steel and rhinestones. I am trying some new techniques and materials and I love that these give me a whole new way of looking at things. A bit of rocker chic to rock out at the next board meeting, don't you think?

Heart of Hearts

These earrings just spell out Feminine! I love the wonderful shabby chic hearts and the softness of the ribbon. My favorite colours tend to be in the greens, so the crystals emanate that. The extra detail on the earwires just make me smile!
When you are feeling nostalgic, or you need that extra boost of girlishness without all the pink froo-froo, this is a nice go to set!

You can find these Earrings and many other pairs in my Etsy shop.

Chic Shutter Display

I was at an art fair once some years ago, in a jewelry booth. The artist had cleverly used a pair of exterior window shutters, hinged together like a screen, to display her wares. Her earrings and some of her necklaces were attached to folded cards, and these cards were slotted in between the stiles. The shutters had a charming "shabby chic" paint finish (or maybe they were just old!). Of course you must use them upside down (as pictured above), so the slats are oriented the right way to get your cards in there. The pair of unpainted pine shutters above are from Home Depot, but you could certainly scavenge your own honest-to-goodness vintage shutters! Or pull them off your own house in a pinch. A little ventilation space in between the stiles (or slats) is important for slotting your cards in there, so if the shutters have been heavily painted and repainted you might have to ream that out a little bit.

These salvaged Victorian shutters from Capitol Salvage seem like just the ticket! You could flip them upside down and put them on an easel.

MOXIE METAL jewelry display set

MOXIE METAL ladder style earring display

I am totally not into fluffy pink and red hearts, but there is something sweet and special about these grungy and rustic heart themed displays that just tugs at mine. Totally on my wish list.

Pebbles

I call these earrings Pebbles, as in the Flinstones!
I got these unusual Onyx Barrels while in Mexico last week
and I wanted to do something really different with them.
They have holes running through the center but on no that's too easy!
So I put them on their side and wrapped copper wire around and sandwich them in between
 and dangled Ammonite Leaves underneath.

Here's a picture of the beads.

I think I'll be able to do lots of cool stuff with them.

If you'd like to see more of my work, please check out my
I've also shared some photos from Mexico and there will be more to come on

Thanks for looking, I'd love to know what you think!

I Left My Heart In Santa Fe

OK, I've never actually been there. But it sounds really cool (adobe architecture! pueblos! sun!) and I'm sure if I went there, I probably would leave my heart there.

I made these little earrings in a southwestern color palette, with turquoise magnesite, green turquoise, and glass seed beads in crimson. Pewter heart charms from Happy Mango Beads, and ruffled sterling silver beadcaps from Etsy seller Cathy Dailey.

Of course, you would have to wear these with jeans and boots--and I'm thinking a skinny turtleneck in vanilla cream.

Iridescent Patina Earrings for Spring ~

Today's design is visiting how my jewelry ideas begin ~
I've been playing with patina's this month.
These are perfect for Spring!

They have a wonderful blue shimmer that catches the sun ~

Cool Water Blossoms

I recently made a pile of these little flower beadcaps, and combined them with some of my favorite beads. I love these "lumi" finish Czech glass beads in pale blue--they're like drops of cool water! I combined them with some rice pearls in a matching silvery blue. The design makes me think of a fuchsia blossom, one of my favorite flowers.

I imagine these with a clingy 1930s era gown in ice blue satin, or with a hippie-chic tunic and leggings. Dress them up or down!

All the copper in these earrings (including the earwires) has been sealed in a high-grade lacquer to preserve patina and shine, and inhibit sensitivity.

Serendipity

Okay, I have to admit...after making these earrings, I just had to keep them. I can't part with them, I just can't do it. They're SO me.
I purchased the purple filigree at a local consignment shop called Serendipity. The earrings had long purple tubes and balls and even the ear wires were purple posts! They were 5 inches in length! Actually they were quite hideous but really stylin' back in the day I'm sure. I couldn't wait to take them apart because I immediately pictured using turquoise colored beads with this shade of purple. So, I got on one of my most favorite Etsy sites Arte Bella Surplus and ordered these Picasso Czech glass beads and they were perfect!

These earrings begged to be paired with a peasant blouse or tunic like this one...

Green, hopefully....please?

I have been so inspired by thoughts of Spring this last week!

These "hopeful" green earrings are a combination of some borosilicate glass beads created by a fellow Frederick, MD glass artist, Julie Delaney, and I chose them a while ago for their lovely, muted shades of green...my all-time favorite color!  I created the sterling and faceted green agate components after a wonderful workshop with Richard Salley, where I learned to solder bezel cups and set tiny cabochons.  In my quest for the perfect, Spring-like, green creation, I paired the 2 and came up with these!

We haven't really had a bad winter here in Maryland, but for some reason, I am totally ready for new shoots of green to spring from the ground.  They actually have here and there on warmer days...I know they will die back when the big snow/cold finally hits here, but they are always a hopeful sign!

Delicate Daisies

Better late than never right? Shoot. Sorry Guys!

Either one of these romantic tops would bea great addition to my Delicate Daisy earrings. Beautiful faceted nuggets of Iolite, paired with daisy charms and brass wire evoke a romantic and feminine feel.  Iolite is derived from the Greek "los", meaning violet.  I love the Greek history!  You can find these earrings in my etsy store. Bamboo Butterflies

Have you ever come across a display idea so beautiful, so clever that it made you gasp? That is exactly what I thought when I saw the amazing Bamboo Butterfly display from Etsy seller Carissa of PeshkiShop.

The display hangs slightly apart from the wall causing a play of light and shadows from the cutouts. The sweet fluttering wings burned into the sustainable bamboo wood are such a delightful touch. Functional art!

Now I need to see what it would take to mail this to me all the way from New Zealand! ;-)

And yet another piece I've been coveting for awhile.
This beautiful Copper Panel
