A Song Of Spring And Summer Summer

Spring, summer and even early autumn flowers make my heart sing. A bad day can always be made better with a bouquet of flowers, (fortunately my husband knows this about me).
I've been trying to transfer my obsession with flowers to my glaze paintings on porcelain. These earring feature my freehand glaze paintings, along with beautiful lampwork glass by Susan Kennedy of SueBeads. The Song Of Spring earrings are available on my website.
In mid- August a friend and I are taking a Zoom class on painting watercolor flowers.  I'm looking forward to seeing how I can apply what I learn to my work in clay. Have you taken any online classes during your pandemic isolation?

Kalimera

Normally at this time of year we would be packing for our summer holiday - probably in Greece, as we debate somewhere different every year and still decide Greece is just the best. So friendly, so laid back, beautiful scenery, masses of history and gorgeous warm seas. Brilliant food for all tastes too, as we have meat eaters, vegetarians and vegans in our family.

But I think like most people we just aren't confident to fly yet. There is still too much uncertainty for me. Last week some very close friends of ours made the move to live in Rhodes; they travelled overland with their dog and cat in an epic 4 day, 4000 mile journey. As soon as things settle down we will go over and stay with them but for now, greek style earrings will have to suffice!

Meandros is the greek word for the repetitive scroll pattern found in much greek architecture and especially on mosaics and borders.

The ceramic pieces are by Jane Bliznakova. Above are gold key pattern amber czech glass beads, some of my favourites to use. Those fabulous twisted rope copper connectors are by Lesley Watt, and they are hung on hand made copper earwires.

I hope some of you are managing to get away, even for a short break - goodness knows, we need it.

See you again in  two weeks time, and please, look after yourselves and your families.

Good King of Cats

Hello!

I had received some wonderful polymer charms from a bead artist in Sweden by the name of Anneli Gustavsson.   It was love at first sight!  All the charms had whimsical medieval illustrations and mostly of little animals.  Loveeee I tell you!

I must have tried a half dozen different designs and then I thought to pair them with a cross or sword of some type.  I dug around in my stash of Inviciti charms and huzzah - the perfect rich gold pieces! I almost added some pearls but decided to leave them more primitive. I used handmade twisted ear-wires by Joan Moritz Langmo which add just the right touch.  When you decide on a more simple design it's important that each piece is amazing on its own. Honestly, I couldn't be more thrilled with the way they turned out.

Thank you for stopping by my beading table today!

Jewelled Hearts

Hello!
I really wanted to incorporate cup chain into my beadwoven designs.  I know it's very common in bead embroidery but I've not seen it in beadweaving.  I tried first by wire wrapping the cup chain in my usual manner....but when I went to add the beadwoven sections around it (and on the inside) it turned in to a right mess. This was a while ago.
I gave it another try, I thought if I used the same method as bead embroidery I might get better results. It worked however it is very very labour intensive but the result is amazing (I think so :D)

These are the first earrings in this design.  I'm pretty sure there will be more.

I combined red, light and dark pink, orange, gold and then matte silver grey to tone it down a little.  I've used beautiful porcelain bells by Lonely Seagull as the dangles.

Hanging view.

That's all for this week.  These will be available in my group later today.  Thank you and see you soon
