Juicy Grapes

These pretty chainmaille earrings do look a bit like clusters of shiny purple grapes.  Made of blue, purple, teal, and fuchsia anodized niobium rings, their back-and-forth European 4-in-1 weave drapes from a 10-mm ring and finishes with a 4-mm ring at the bottom.  They hang from ear wires of matching niobium and are great fun to wear, lightweight and swingy in your ears.   They're also fun to make, easy and quick to come together.

I'll be back again in two weeks with a bit more to say.   (It's just been one of those weeks.)   Thanks for looking!

Meridy

  1. These earrings are "juicy" and fun Meridy :) I had to laugh when you say these are easy and quick to make..... Not for me. I am already lost when I hear back-and-forth European 4-in-1 weave.

    1. Aww, thanks, Janine! They'd be easy for you to make if you had a teacher. I wish I could sit down with you and show you, Janine! :) The "back and forth" part is simply the rows in these earrings: if you look, you'll notice that the rings switch direction with each row because of the way the rings are put together in the weave. European 4-in-1 is called that because the start of any project in that weave is based on putting 4 rings into 1 ring. Also, this weave was the most common chain mail weave used for battle mail in the West and is considered the easiest weave to learn. <3 oxox

    2. Wouldn't that be wonderful to have you teach me this! Perhaps one day. It is extra special now I know the history of this particular chain mail weave. Thank you!

    1. Thanks so much, Sister Karen! It's so funny, I love making chainmaille but seem to do a lot of it for a spell and then neglect it for a while. I'm in a doing-it phase right now. ;)

  5. Admiring your patience yet again. One line is my limit. But the mix of colours is inspired. x

  6. Oh I do love chainmaille .... I love the mix of colours and very pretry weave. I have dabbled a bit with chainmaille but my chunky fingers are just not up to it I'm afraid.

  7. These are so intriguing Meridy. They have movement even while they're stationary! The colors are luscious. I can't imagine they come together quickly with all those rings!!! I once purchased chainmaille rings by mistake and they were difficult to open and close. Was that just their thickness perhaps? They were wonderfully tight-fitting rings but tough on the hands. Is that true with all chainmaille rings? They're beautiful, and I may just have to enjoy yours. xox
