The Pepper Mill - Inspired by Van Gogh

Over at the Art Bead Scene we select a work of art for our readers to interpret using art beads and turning that inspiration into an accessory of their choice. I attempted to do all 12 of them last year (I think I managed 10) and this month marks the first time that I have had the time and been inspired to create something in 2012.

I call these earrings "The Pepper Mill" and they are inspired by a painting by Vincent Van Gogh.

I have had these little coppery gingerbread vintage stampings in my treasure trove for years. I bought them when I first started going online to buy supplies from B'Sue Boutiques when she was on eBay. It has been so long ago (maybe 2006?) that I purchased them that I am not even sure that she sells them anymore, but there are other propellers and pinwheels that I found on her site today! A lot has changed for B'Sue Boutiques, a new website coming soon and selling on Etsy, but her fun and quirky style and a vast collection of vintage stampings still exists. Recently I went a little nutty with ceramics from Marsha Neal and lo and behold I have several baggies filled with her charms and pendants. I truly need to use what I have! When I saw these little pinwheels next to some ceramic trapezoid earring charms from Marsha Neal Studio, well, it was a match made in heaven!

Sea Shells like Wind Chimes

 

I had made a longer version of these last week and had such a great response that I decided to make two more pairs.

  I love the soft flowing feel of these. They way they make a soft wind chime like sound.  I have been inspired this week to work with things from the Sea. Now I just can't wait for summer!

I love sleek and functional and that is exactly what this Bamboo Earring Holder from Bamboo Blossom Craft on Etsy is all about. It is created from sustainable bamboo and finished with a protective coating that is used for furniture and cabinet making. There is a set of slotted acrylic panels that have been cut to house dozens of earrings. And there is a mirror on the front so that you can see how the earrings look. It is so minimalist and simple, yet it hides a lot of earrings that won't get tangled in your jewelry box. That is clever!

Island Vacation

Rum Punch with an Umbrella in it on the Beach in Jamaica

I need a vacation, and a tropical island would do just fine. I would wear these with a matching bikini and sarong. And some turquoise Crocs.

These charming beadcaps are made from vintage, printed tin by Donna Millard, with green aventurine roundels and green turquoise heishi. I used a pair of my hand-formed earwires, wrapped with glass seed beads in bright turquoise.

I'm thinking the sarong will have sleeves, buttons up the front, and maybe a hood.

Spring Fever

I was inspired times two for today's post! I absolutely love this time of year, and the promise of Spring right around the corner. Winters in Upstate NY can be pretty brutal. As soon as we start having a few nice days of 50+ weather (today we are expecting high in the 60s!) I start dreaming about flower gardens, and heading to the local nursery to buy plants.

The first pair of earrings I have created are my signature brass hoops with Lampwork glass flowers, ceramic discs, and green pixies. A fun pair of earrings that can be work at at time of the year, but are most appropriate during the Spring Fever.

The second pair, are very small and delicate flowers made from Czech glass flowers, and sweet bronze "stem" components. They dangle on Bronze earwires that have a beautiful shine.

I used red flowers, as if I would be wearing them with this awesome floral blouse from Anthropologie, my inspiration for today. Love that photo too!
