Blue For You

Hello dear friends,

Todays earrings are made from a pair of lovely ceramic disks I have had in my stash for a very long time. I believe they were among the first batch of art beads I bought from Round Rabbit, aka Nancy Adams, back in 2010 or 2011. They are rather big, 3 cm diameter, but very thin, so they are super light weight.

I've assembled them with the earring hooks via some pewter square profiled rings and one of my favourite materials, waxed linen cord. I have a small box of scrap bits of cord that I just roamed around in and soon found the bits of these three perfectly matching colours.

The whole equipage comes to about 15 cm and will just barely touch the shoulders when being worn. These are a kind of everyday yet statement-kind-of earrings. A style that I myself am very fond of. I am looking forward to taking them out on their first excursion in the city any day soon.

Going to the Art Gallery

I was looking for a statement quality in these earrings. Large and bold, not to be missed when being worn. Kind of the opposite of discrete. They are long, with a cluster of beads and components in different materials. Still surprisingly lightweight (due to the materials used). I personally would wear them when going to an opening night at an art exhibition :-).

Shabby Chic Rustic Rococo

Hello there, 
November is here. And here's my latest earrings creation.

I started with the porcelain charms that I recently got from RoundRabbit, and pretty soon I knew I wanted to use the newspaper newsprint jasper heishis together with them. What a perfect match! But then the next step was the hard one. How to connect them? How to make a well proportioned whole? I tried a few solutions using thinner wire in different metals, and with the jasper beads sitting in different ways. Even trying to use more than one for each earring sometimes as a way of creating some boldness. But I rejected all of those attempts. Simply not good enough.

I knew the jasper and the porcelain charms were so good together, and I didn't want to give up on that gut feeling. So I let the thing rest for a week or so on my studio table. When I went in there the other day I realized what was needed was something with a much more rustic look to go with the other two. Hence the 20 gauge heavily oxidized copper wire. The doubled circles I created around a marker pen which made a perfect proportion of the rings. And then my ever so often occurring messy wrap. Now I was finally very pleased.

I've had these lovely porcelain charms by Round Rabbit for years now (I can't be the only one who hoards these things, right?) but since I am so hooked on using Irish waxed linen here lately, well...inspiration (finally) struck on how I wanted to use them.

Water Lilies by Lorelei

Inspired by a trip to the botanical gardens in Maine with my husband! I just loved the water lilies in each pond, buzzing with little dragonflies and overflowing with all types of gorgeous wild life.

 

The ceramic discs from Round Rabbit are perfect with this enameled flower headpins from C Koop beads, and to make each a little more interesting, I added a Vintaj Brass component behind each disc. The faceted Jade rondelles play off the flowers. These were so fun to make.  You can call them your own, they are for sale here in my Etsy shop.
