Gypsy Gold

These earrings make me think of a Gypsy lady, wearing her earthly fortune in gold and silver. I think it's these striped beads--I always think of striped carnival tents when I use them. I have no idea if Gypsies use striped tent fabric but for some reason this is embedded firmly in my mind.

Ha! Stripes.

I started this pair with rustic, brass finish Mykonos "cornflake" charms from Stinky Dog Beads and built a subdued palette around them in silver, cherry red, olive green and ivory. The little striped Indonesian glass beads, as well as the big "Casbah" pewter bead caps, are from Happy Mango Beads. The big clear glass nugget beads were cannibalized from a necklace a customer once gave me--I will be so sad when I use them up, I just love them! I haven't seen anything like them anywhere else.

These delicious little pumpkin-hued keyholes are the first of my whopping big enamel stash from GardanneBeads. I am going to be making a lot of earrings with enamel elements!! After I had put these all together, they had a colorful gypsy feel to me, and made me think of an ornate, old-fashioned gypsy caravan.   A tiny one! With a wee door and keyhole. As if Thumbelina ran away to join the gypsies and they gave her her own little caravan....

To Outdo A Gypsy!

Did you know that in the gypsy culture they are always trying to outdo one an another? For example, if one gypsy girl had shall we say earrings? that measured 4 inches long and had 10 diamond filigrees on each earring, the next gypsy girl would get 5 inch earrings with 14 diamond filigrees on each earring and Swarovski crystals at the end... and so on and so on...

 Well I am OK with that! I love to make these large and long gypsy earrings! They are fun and full of elegance and whimsy! The crystals on these are Montana Blue, but any other colour is doable if you want something with more bling!  I change them up as you have seen if you follow this blog. I have a large variety of them since they are one of my top sellers!

Gypsy Style

Carved black horn feathers, with handmade lampwork spacers in light cobalt from The Spacer Shop, and striped Indonesian glass beads from Happy Mango Beads, all on hand-forged sterling silver. These earrings feel sort of gypsy to me--for some reason these little striped Indonesian beads always make me think of gypsy things. Maybe a striped tent?

I'm thinking of something sort of gypsy-goth with these (I NEED these tights!!):
