One in, one out

You may have heard the saying, "one in, one out" referring to letting go of a clothing item before buying a new one. I have tried this with beads with only partial success. There always seems to be more beads coming in than being made up for my shop!

I decided to try that rule out again recently after going on an artisan bead buying binge. Now to make lots of earrings so I don't feel so guilty...here are three pairs I made in my challenge.

My first pair of earrings have recycled glass that matches my rustic, grungy Numinosity  Beads perfectly. I do have a passion for grungy enamel beads. I have had these for a while just waiting for the perfect beads to go with them.

I love working with blue and this next pair is a lighter blue using Marshall Jodie lampwork stripy beads and fabulous hand painted polka dot beach stones from Plymouth Rocks. I used some blue Irish waxed linen to stack the lampwork beads and connect them to the bead stones.

My third pair of earrings has artisan lampwork headpins from Monte Verdi Lampwork. I have had these in my stash for a long time. So long, I don't think they make head pin anymore. Finally time for these little sparkling poppies to shine in the sun. I added padparadscha crystals with sterling silver bails and attached them to sterling silver ear wires.

I dug deep to find beads to use in my latest creations. I went so deep in my stash it was like getting these beads new all over again. It was a great project to make room for MORE beads. I highly recommend trying out the 'one in, one out' method as a challenge.

I hope you have a great week and it is jam packed with creativity and beads,
Jetta

  1. That is something I really need to try. I work very slowly. . . so the ratio of coming in to going out has required additional shelves over the years! :) All three pairs are great, but I find myself partial to the middle pair. And that is so unusual because I am not a fan of polka dots. I don't think I've ever made anything with polka dots. . . . YET I like these earrings a lot. So maybe I need to rethink that idea. I also love the frames you used. You seem to have so many wonderful little metal pieces. I am always on the hunt but don't seem to find the cool things you do! :) Great eye, Jetta.

  2. I really like the idea of "one in, one out" as I am a hoarder of the highest order! Love all the earrings, but the middle are my favorite as the textures are playful with the stripe beads stacking and the polka dots, and the colors are sort of moody. Glad to have you here, Miss Jetta! Enjoy the day! Erin

  3. Love all three pairs, but the unusual design of the first pair makes them my favourites. I too should adopt your rule, but that would mean I wouldn't be able to buy any more new beads for a looong time, maybe never! ;)

  4. Not that is something I will definitely have to try as with me it is more like 6 in, one maybe out....
You certainly made good use of the "out" ones Jetta. Beautiful earrings. I especially like what you did with the lampies in the second pair.

  5. I love all the comments, ladies-thank you!! Yes my bead flow is more like 6 in 1 out, lol...and I can never see using up all my beads. But they are taking over the floor now instead of all my bins and shelves- eeek! I sort of just decided to start where my stash is and work from that point :)

  6. I really need to give this a try...but I'm laughing to myself because if I didn't buy another bead for the next 5 years I might just catch up..lol Your earrings are exceptional and the layers of texture - yum!

  9. Not even going there. I may not have many years left, so I am going to indulge myself! But I admire your resolve Jetta. Blue ones for me , too - love those dots!
