In a gypsy mood

Hello peeps,

How are you all doing?
Well, autumn has arrived here in Greece as well and with those beautiful leaves falling from the trees I was getting a bit in a gypsy mood. Can you tell by looking at these earrings?

Being a hoarder I have been able to amass quite a stash of sari silk as well as seed beads.
I wanted to incorporate those tiny seed beads into my design, so I stitched some peyote bead tubes.

Together with sari silk, Czech glass and some chain they turned out exactly how I had envisioned them.

I couldn't stop myself and made three pairs, with lots of new ideas for more.

Which pair do you like the most?

These are now available in my shop.

Thank you so much for visiting and I hope to see you again next month. As you know we at Earrings Everyday love to read your comments so please, don’t be shy and leave one. It doesn’t have to be in English :)

Thanks for looking!

The Silk Route

I have a HUGE stash of sari silk and I suspect this is true of most of us?! So a couple of weeks ago I dug them out (literally) and had a play.  I made several pairs of earrings.

Porcelain drops by Melissa Gabelle and the wrapped bundle (as one of my customers called it) consists of a brass tube wrapped in sari silk and cup chain.  If you squint your eyes long enough you should be able to see the sari silk peeking out from under the cup chain. I added some Czech glass flowers in blue and dark orange to match the colours on the drops.

Porcelain caps by Melissa Gabelle.  Stacked up on top are Swarovski rondelles, lampwork beads, Czech glass and some teeny porcelain rounds.  Hanging from underneath are my sari silk and chain wrapped 'bundles' and flower drops.

Top 2 pairs are new but I had to share a 3rd pair I made a couple of weeks ago.  Again they feature porcelain drops by Melissa Gabelle, stacked on top are brass caps and tubes followed by hoops and topped with wrapped sari silk.

Then there are these:

Here I have incorporated sari silk in one of my signature designs. Petra Carpreau Frida drops, wrapped with sari silk and chain and topped with Czech glass rondelles.

Lastly, Petra Carpreau Vermeer drops, slightly asymmetrical.

Now that I have unearthed my sari silk stash - there might a flood of designs featuring the same ;).

I hope you like this week's offerings.  Top 2 pairs will be available in my next online Trunk show and the bottom 2 pairs are currently listed in my Etsy shop.

Have a lovely weekend.

See you in a couple of weeks time.

Trying out some new stuff

Spending time in the Netherlands has it advantages. There are many arts & craft shops in the small town where I used to live, carrying a myriad of things. As usual, I couldn't resist so I bought textile hardener and some acrylic paint pens to play with.

These earrings are my first try-out of both. I made a “cage” with wire and covered it with bright orange sari silk. A great way of using left-over silk.

I “painted” the sari silk with the textile hardener and let it dry.Voila, handmade, lightweight, paint-able headpins.

The textile hardener turned the bright orange color into red. I painted some primitive motives with the acrylic paint pens on the headpins, added some old trade beads and strung them on handmade ear wires made by Lucy Haslam (Faerystones). The end result is completely different from what I envisioned as well as completely different from my usual style (if I have any) but I am very pleased how they turned out.

Thank you for looking. See you in a couple of weeks.
And you know, I am always happy to read your comments, so don't be shy and let me know your thoughts. I will always reply.

Wishing you a wonderful day full of joy, sunshine and butterflies.

Boho Leather

I haven't had much time to create lately. I just got a new puppy and I swear it's like having a newborn and a toddler all rolled into one! I am exhausted, but he is totally worth it. Anyway, as soon as I received these Boho Leather wedgies by Melinda Orr Designs, I had to sit down and make something. They are just so cool and fun to play around with.
And this is who has been taking up most of my time lately, meet Rudy Abner.

Be sure to stop back next Friday (April 3) for our next Inspiration challenge by Erin Prais-Hintz!

Thanks for stopping by and have a great weekend!

Catalina

When I sat down to create a pair of earrings this week for today's post, I had planned on something a bit more festive or perhaps sparkly...since New Years Eve is coming up but I guess my muse had other plans. I was inspired by these Bubby & McGurk beads and so I just went with it. I really prefer the Bohemian look these days to anything else.
You will find these earrings on my website here.

I wish everyone a very Happy New Year!

Sari Hoops

Love adding Sari silk to my work when I can and I immediately fell in love with these Bubby & McGurk lampwork beads so I combined the two and am pleased with the result.

These earrings sold at my show this past Saturday, but there are more great earrings on my website.

Thanks for looking and have a fabulous weekend!

Leopard Love

The inspiration for these earrings came from the Leopardskin Jasper Barrels I purchased at the Whole Bead Show a couple of weeks ago. As soon as I saw them I had a pretty good idea what I wanted to do with them and fortunately I had the perfect discs in White Copper already made.

I love adding little tiny touches of Sari Silk and I really think they add something special to these earrings!

I love scarves and this Leopard Scarf is purrrrrfect for these earrings.

Here they are along with some other beads I purchased.

Hooping It Up!

Copper Hoops surrounding some of my favorite Recycled Glass Headpins by Genea.
I think these were my last pair so I definitely need to get more.

I took a pair of my copper hoops, roughly wrapped some pale Recycled Sari Silk around then roughly wrapped them with copper.

The photos don't do justice to the beauty of the glass, it's really so soft and beautiful.
I think I need to wait for full on daylight to capture them properly.

I'll be at the Whole Bead Show in Lynnwood WA
The Lynnwood Convention Center
May 2-4
You can see these earrings and lots more finished jewelry and components live and in person!
My friend Linda Landig will be there too!!!
We hope to see you there, please say hello!!!!

Gypsy Hoops

I love the look of adding ribbon and fibers to earrings and I hadn't done that in quite awhile so when I decided to use these gorgeous lampwork beads (by Bubby & McGurk Beads) that I had been hoarding, I went through my Sari silk ribbon stash first. I added some Czech beads and some dark red coral beads and lots of wire wrapping!

These earrings are for sale on my website but if you are interested in buying beads like these, please check out the Bubby & McGurk Beads Facebook page. Online bead sale tomorrow at 2pm EST.

Thanks for looking!

Hippie Chic

To continue with my latest obsession of Sari Silk, I found this amazing Sari Silk Yarn that I've been playing with lately. Here's the first pair of earrings I made with it.

Hippie Chic

I made hoops and wrapped the yarn around them then attached one of my Copper Buttons.

Here are the 4 skeins I purchased before I took them apart,
it was not easy to do because they are so pretty all coiled up like this.

Fuschia Disc

Mix Polymer Clay Discs, beautiful Lampwork Headpins and a little bit of Sari Silk, wrap them all up in copper wire and this is what you get.

I'm finding myself using touches of Sari Silk in many of my new designs lately and I really love it. It just adds such a wonderful texture and dimension to all the other handmade bits and pieces.

I made the Polymer Clay Discs and the amazing headpins are by SueBeads.

These earrings are available HERE in my Etsy Shop.

Thanks for stopping by, I'd love to hear what you think of my new earrings!

Run Around Blues...

I'm a mom and I do a lot of running around, so I keep my outfits pretty basic.  Since my outfits stay pretty simple my accessories need to add that little pop of color.  I could see me wearing this outfit running my errands with these sweet, girly blue heart earrings and who could not love that purse!

Have a Wonderful Wednesday, you're half way to the weekend!
