Rustic Ceramics

Good Morning, and Happy New Year!

Today's Earrings
Are you familiar with the ceramic work of Nadia Karepencheva, Nadia Terra on Etsy? I first saw her work about a year ago and was smitten! Very unusual beads. No glazes, yet they have color, mostly pastel, from "Engobe Clay". I kept being drawn to her beads and eventually purchased a number of different styles, including the focal in today's earrings. For these she used a dark grey clay and in general I prefer it to the terra cotta she also uses.

Today's Earrings
As much as I love her beads, I do find them challenging to work with. But in the end, I am always happy with what I make with them, and I do love today's earrings. :) The lower focals are green and made from dark clay, and have a bit of a raised, almost striped appearance, made by Nadia Terra. The upper beads are wonderful handmade lampwork glass by Terry Turner of Silver Fish Designs. Dangling on waxed linen on the deeply oxidized, copper wire loop are matte Red Creek Jasper stones and aged glass beads. Lightweight, fun, neutral.

Here are a couple of other recent pairs of earrings with Nadia's beads.

Thank you for stopping by!
I'll be back on the 19th; hope
to see you then!

    1. p.s. I think I commented instead of replied to your comment. Sorry. But I wanted to tell you that I took your advice last week and soldered a loop at the top of the Sterling hoops, pickled them, oxidized them again and am ready to seal them. :) I'm happy with them, and that has a lot to do with you. Thank you!

  2. Patti, thank you so much! I really have tried to share her work because it intrigues me so. :) And she's very sweet. She is in Bulgaria but shipping has been no different than from the U.K., sometimes quicker. You know how that goes. :) Thanks again! I appreciate your feedback very much.

  5. Stupendous work, as always, Norbel. I am crazy about well-done ceramics. I love how you see the wonder in another artist's work and bring that work and wonder to your own creations.

    1. Susan, I appreciate your analyses always. You put in words things that I feel. I do see wonder and so much more in other artists' work. Working with their pieces carries the responsibility of making it my own without dulling its original beauty. Thank you!
