Flower Hoops

I am torn. I don't want to give up the flowers but yet I am embracing the Autumn season too. These earrings are a cross between both. Gorgeous deep Autumn colors but with a floral motif.

Going Tribal

African Krobo Bead Earrings on Etsy

 



My earliest pieces of jewelry were slightly southwestern in style. It is the tribal element in southwestern that is so appealing to me. Along the way I have discovered other tribal styles including Hill Tribe silver, Peruvian ceramic, Asian mala, Indonesian glass. I love them all!

 

My personal favorite for variety, vivid colors and imaginative use of shape are the African beads. Primitive hand painted Krobo beads are captivating and full of personality. Brass beads are cast using the same method for a thousand years and maintain that ancient character. Large and small trade beads (originally from Europe) in bright colors have circulated within tribal Africa for hundreds of years.  These amazing African beads are now becoming more readily accessible, and they inspire me to go more and more tribal.

Delicious Autumn

A simple pair of leaf earrings on sterling silver earwires.  Tiny little faceted brass beads adds a little sparkle and interest.  The leaves are created with transulcent polymer clay and dyed in autumn hues.

I keep making these architectural or hardware looking things. These earrings make me think of a corbel, a decorative bracket used to support a mantelpiece or a shelf:

I had an idea--one of those stray thoughts that float into your mind in the shower, or while you're driving, or as you're waking up in the morning--about folding a tab of metal over the ball of a headpin to create a hanging loop. I tried it a few days later and it worked!

I love metal.

Autumn Hoopla Earrings

I love that little bit of pink you can find in autumn. Mixed somewhere in the palette of rusts and ochres are the more rare brilliant reds and plums of the season.  I created these earrings inspired by some of Pantone's Fall 2012 color picks.

Lotus Awakening

I had these little new old stock raw brass flower filigree bead caps. I bought them to enamel. That was before I took the class with Barbara Lewis and discovered that it won't work on raw brass. I didn't want to give up on them, so I decided to see what would happen with the new Vintaj metal patinas.


The colors are very vibrant, they can be layered, but you have to work quickly because they bond to metal  and dry fast. This is a few colors of the patinas blended together and paired with amethyst.

I would pair these earrings with this beautiful purple jersey infinity scarf from LenitaGM on Etsy.

 And this recycled bomber jacket turned hip bag by my friend Lori from Studio Waterstone on Etsy. I am seriously tempted to buy this bag. I just recently bought one of Lori's recycled bomber jacket bags in teal because I couldn't wait. Now I want this one in black, too!
