Serendipity With Buttons

I had no idea what to make for this week's earrings, until I sat down at my work table last weekend. There, at the table, were all the leftover beads from a bracelet I'd made last week. I know, I know I should clean up after myself, but that's a whole different story.
Among the debris, I found these buttons that I'd bought at an antique/vintage store a couple of years ago. When I made the purchase, I planned to use them to create button closures for bracelets. But I suddenly saw these buttons in a new light.

I realized they could be used like earring charms or dangles! I dug through the other beads on my table and came across these really cool, rustic ceramic discs that I'd picked up at a bead show somewhere. They have very large holes in the center, so that when I attached them to the wooden buttons, the discs covered up the button shanks.

I added some accents and connected it all with brown Irish waxed linen. I love how they turned out. It tickles me that I could come up with a new, unusual way to use some old buttons. You can find these earrings in my shop now. Thanks, as always, for visiting Earrings Everyday. We love hearing from you in the comment section!

Stack 'em up

Hello there earring people!

So, I've been busy learning some new silversmithing skills, and so to be honest, I've not been paying attention to my beads and wire. I can get like this sometimes. If something takes my attention, I can be quite obsessive about it. But I wanted to create something non-silver for this blog, if only to prove I can still use that bit of brain!

So, I came across these glorious ceramic gold headpins and textured inky blue ceramic beads by the fabulously talented Claire Lockwood. There they were - having been hoarded in my beady stash for quite a while (I'm always reluctant to part with Claire's pretty things).

I recently bought some very pretty lapis lazuli rondelles - two types - shiny/ smooth and rough and some pyrite. The inky blue of the lapis and the gold sheen of the pyrite are a good match for the colours in Claire's ceramics, don't you think? I thought they looked good all stacked up on the gold headpins. I like the matching colours, but also the contrasting shapes and textures. Stacking beads is a fairly simple design, but  a good opportunity to play with different shapes and colours.

That's me done for July! I'll be back in September
And these earrings will be available in my August showcase over on The Earrings Show in Facebook Land

Purple or green?

Hello!

It's been a gorgeous Easter weekend here in the UK. Bright and beautiful. And speaking of bright and beautiful, I received my latest batch of goodies from Petra Carpreau recently! And these rather lovely connectors caught my eye straight away.

First off...purple. These connectors have a lovely long loop, which I wrapped with some oxidised copper wire and little seeds. I framed them with some small oxidised brass hoops and added some pretty amethyst beads.

The green ones were next... I kept the same elements of the design, but added some brass spacers and tiny czech glass. I love both colours -can't pick a favourite! What do you think? Purple or green?

They'll both be available over on The Jewellery Show on Facebook on Friday/Saturday. See you again soon!

Stacked earrings

Hello hello hello *waiving like some sort of possessed woman*, how are you all doing? I hope you are enjoying a wonderful day, with sunshine and laughter.

Last Monday I had an earring show on Facebook, which "forced" me to finally sit down and make earrings. Hence the "possessed" woman. Yep, I went on a wild earring creating frenzy.
No time to eat, no time for grocery shopping, just bead bead bead.  And buy buy buy LOL, Because, hey, I was planning to sell earrings, meaning I could use that money to buy new beads. Upfront of course, as I "needed" them to make the earrings for the show. Hubby mumbled a bit in the corner about the illogical thinking and already having more beads than I could ever use. Well, what does he know. Everybody understands a jewelry designer needs beads. Right? Right? Right! And no, I am NOT a bead hoarder. Really, I am not. One day I am going to use them all. Really.

Well, enough of the rambling, it is time to show you some of my creations. I love stacked earrings and I so admire the work of our own Malin de Koning, the stacked earring queen.

Here are some of the pairs. using most Czech glass beads. Of which one can never have enough. Right? Right!

And here a stacked pair with some beautiful ceramic charms made by Petra Carpreau of Scorched Earth and tiny birdies made by Karen Trezise from Ditsy Blue Beads. And of course ear wires made by Lucy Haslam from Faerystones.

Thank you so much for looking and your support for Earrings Everyday :)

The Silk Route

I have a HUGE stash of sari silk and I suspect this is true of most of us?! So a couple of weeks ago I dug them out (literally) and had a play.  I made several pairs of earrings.

Porcelain drops by Melissa Gabelle and the wrapped bundle (as one of my customers called it) consists of a brass tube wrapped in sari silk and cup chain.  If you squint your eyes long enough you should be able to see the sari silk peeking out from under the cup chain. I added some Czech glass flowers in blue and dark orange to match the colours on the drops.

Porcelain caps by Melissa Gabelle.  Stacked up on top are Swarovski rondelles, lampwork beads, Czech glass and some teeny porcelain rounds.  Hanging from underneath are my sari silk and chain wrapped 'bundles' and flower drops.

Top 2 pairs are new but I had to share a 3rd pair I made a couple of weeks ago.  Again they feature porcelain drops by Melissa Gabelle, stacked on top are brass caps and tubes followed by hoops and topped with wrapped sari silk.

Then there are these:

Here I have incorporated sari silk in one of my signature designs. Petra Carpreau Frida drops, wrapped with sari silk and chain and topped with Czech glass rondelles.

Lastly, Petra Carpreau Vermeer drops, slightly asymmetrical.

Now that I have unearthed my sari silk stash - there might a flood of designs featuring the same ;).

I hope you like this week's offerings.  Top 2 pairs will be available in my next online Trunk show and the bottom 2 pairs are currently listed in my Etsy shop.

Have a lovely weekend.

See you in a couple of weeks time.

Gone Industrial....

Hi everyone.  I have been making lots of new earrings for my upcoming earrings only FB show.  I always make several pairs of the same design with slight variations....I keep making the same design until I'm either bored or I run out of supply.  In this case, I ran out of the Petra connectors.

A group shot, just because 😄

1. with a pair of vintage raw brass filigree beads.

2. With little chunks of tanzanite

3. with little druzy geode chunks

4. and with peace beads

These plus many more will be available in my FB show on Wednesday the 16th from 9pm BST/4PM EST in The Earrings Show group.  Hope you can pop over.

See you again soon.

Stacked

Greetings from sunny Greece.

This week we will have our second heatwave of this year, with temperatures expected to exceed 40 degrees Celsius. We have no air-conditioning in our mobile home, so it will be a bit warm. At the end of the day we will possibly head to one of our favorite beach-clubs to swim and enjoy the beach.

As I couldn't get enough of stacked earrings I made another pair with beads from one of the beautiful muse packs from Smittenbeads.

Thanks for visiting. Wishing you all a wonderful day, full of joy, happiness, laughter and sunshine. See you in a couple of weeks.

Stacked colorful playfulness

A trend that's been going on over the last year or so is the stacked earrings style. Perhaps it's on its way out already, I don't know, but I am still a big fan. I just love to play around with different kinds of beads and colors in this way. I tend to end up with slightly mismatched pairs when I do these kinds of designs, because they often spring from the bead soup of leftovers on my messy work table.

The cute blue rhombic ceramic dangles came in a gift package from someone - I am a little bit unsure who it was, but I believe it was HappyFish. The other beads are a mix of ethnic beads, seed beads and czech glass.

If you too like the stacked earrings style you might want to check out this board on Pinterest called Stacked Earrings Challenge

All my best,
Malin

Swaying

Recently I've shared a couple of posts with earrings that were made for a Stacked Earrings blog hop initiated by Malin de Koning. All the participants enjoyed the challenge so much, we decided to make it a regular thing. This time it was my turn to select and send the beads out. Here's one of the pairs that I made.

These were one of the last pairs I made and one of the pairs with which I was most pleased. I thought I'd made all the earrings I was going to make when I came up with the idea of putting some of the stacked beads on a skinny vintage chain link. It gives the earrings an appealing and unusual movement. The dotty lampwork spacers are from Cat Lampwork and I've mixed them with pearls, Indonesian glass, Greek ceramics and Czech glass, including some crackled glass rounds which I thought I'd never find a use for!

Before I go, I must give you a quick reminder that this month's We're All Ears Blog Hop is happening tomorrow.  Erin has found some stunning images to inspire your designs. I'm hoping to have a go myself.  Have you got yours made yet?

Bye for now, Claire
