Amethysts All the Way Down

Recently I've been fortunate to have collected a number of pairs of delicately beautiful enameled earring components by Raida Disbrow of Havana Beads.  My newest earrings, below, are made from one of her gorgeous pairs: luscious florals in purples and deep purply blues, with droplets of pink and baby blue.

It's been a long time since I've made much rosary chain, but I enjoyed putting together the little chains of small faceted amethysts.  And I'm not dreading this whole briolette-wrapping thing so much anymore either, probably because I'm getting a little better at it despite myself.  That's what happens when you keep working on it, right? I can hear my mother asking me now from the other side.  (Of course, she's right.) 😉🌷

Recipe for Amethysts All the Way Down

(6) Small anodized niobium rings, purple

Peace

I made these Stylized Peace signs awhile ago in White Copper
but I just decided I needed to make them in Copper and give them 3 holes.
I paired them up with these pretty micro faceted Pink Stones and I love the look!!

They have lovely long Antiqued Copper Earwires handmade by Julie Thelen, that I've embellished with a wonderful Silver Bead and a few twists of copper wire to keep them in place.

I went for mixed metals in this one which I always love!!

I'd love to see these earrings with a super funky Hippy Bohemian outfit like this.

They remind me a little bit of the Bell Bottoms I wore as a young teenager!

Rosy, Posy Hoops

I have been wanting to create some hoop earrings for a long time, but was a bit nervous about making the earwire part and making sure they closed securely, but weren't hard to take on and off.  I finally just sat down and played until they worked!  These are my rosy, posy hoop earrings...for some reason I had "ring around the rosy, pocket full of posies" on a loop in my head while I was making these!

The posies are layered copper components that were tortured into submission by me, then enameled. I wrapped them onto the hoops so they face forward.  I am in the process of putting together a quick little tutorial on these headpins with a twist...made especially for wrapping!  Stay tuned ;)

I created a little ensemble on Polyvore that I thought these would go great with...a very romantic, soft and feminine look...perfect for warm summer evenings!

Summer of Love

With the unseasonably warm, sunny days up here in our alpine nook, I can't help dreaming of summer. And these long, swingy earrings, with their carved flowers, make me think of a certain song, and certain summer

If you're going to San Francisco,
be sure to wear some flowers in your hair...
If you're going to San Francisco,
You're gonna meet some gentle people there.

I wasn't actually there--I was just a few months old at the time--but it's fascinating to read about, and to ponder what, if anything, remains of that summer in our culture.

Heavy thoughts, over a pair of hippie earrings. But from what I can see of the pictures from that event, people were really into accessorizing. Right on.

You can see more at my Etsy shop, or at my blog.
