Sanctuary Earrings

I don't know about you, but I am so sick of this election season. I can hardly wait for it to be over - although I do have anxieties about what will happen post-election too.  Anyway, while the news was on TV tonight, I just felt a need to escape into the sanctuary of my studio, where I made these earrings.  Creativity nurtures my soul, especially at times when the world feels like it is sucking me dry.
I got the delightful ceramic drops from Diana Ptaszynski in August 2015, when I visited her, and her husband Colin, prior to the summer Bead Fest in Philadelphia.
Using dark green Irish waxed linen, I knotted the ceramic drops to multi-colored speckled lampwork glass beads by Sue Kennedy of Sue Beads.
I really like glaze that Diana used for these rustic drops and how they contrast and accent the smooth surface of Sue's lampwork glass beads.

Do you have a sanctuary place in your home or elsewhere?  It's important to have a place for self-care and renewal.

  1. My studio is my retreat normally but it is so stuffed I can barely move in there! But no rest for the wicked...I have to get things done for the holiday shows! These are lovely. A respite from the world. Holding such tiny beauty in your hands reminds you that everything will be alright. Enjoy the day! Erin

  2. I love that you used the waxed linen! It's so nice to see something other than wire being used to string beaded earrings.!

  4. Love these earrings Linda! I adore Sue's beads and the little green fibers you used really sets them off. Great choice! My work space is my sanctuary as well. No better feeling then getting lost in your work. ~ Cindy :-)

  7. I hear you loud and clear - that's exactly where I was election night, too - the studio :( It is some comfort to realize that we were able to create some beauty in times of turmoil. That alone is empowering when we feel distraught by the state of things. Beautiful earrings! :)
