Alabama Petticoats

Alabama Petticoats
I have been trying to force myself to use yellow--and not cheat, and use "mustard," or "saffron," or "butterscotch" and try to claim it's yellow--I mean, real, honest-to-God YELLOW. As in Tweety Bird. As in Big Bird. As in Sponge Bob. And here is me, above, using African recycled glass discs in Minion Yellow. I combined them with cool ice blue African recycled glass tulip beads, stacking them for a little more drama (and hey! Petticoats!) Just the two colors together seemed a little lonely, so I added some Indonesian glass beads in turquoise. I love these three colors together. There is something French Country about it that seems to make the yellow go down better.

I capped the yellow glass discs with rustic petaled beadcaps in sterling silver, and capped the petticoats with a pair of my own embossed sterling caps; each petticoat is fastened to the glass disc via one of my sterling silver paddle headpins. I made--as is my habit--the earwires myself and added a couple more turquoise glass beads to pull it all together.

Yellow recycled glass discs from Afrobeadia.
Petal beadcaps from Cathy Dailey.

  1. Well you used it brilliantly! I cheat and use mustard, butterscotch, etc. I am not a fan of yellow but I adore these earrings!

  2. Blue & Yellow are a great pair! Love the beads and how you've stacked them up. The little Indo glass bead at the bottom is a nice touch. I love those beads! The yellow is really sunny and warm- I think the color alone really brings a lot to the design. Beautiful as always = a real Lune Deigns signature piece!

  3. Beautiful pairing. While I don't think it's cheating to use other tints and shades of yellow, it is definitely more of a challenge to take on the pure hue. These earrings are lovely and would complement so many outfits. I added them to my Pin board dedicated to yellow jewelry and components. :)

  7. Love the blue and yellow together. It's a soothing color combination. I love the way you stacked the blue beads, it looks like petals on a flower. Very pretty!

  8. They look like yellow Life Savers (the flavor I was never a fan of!). I love the rustic edges of the beads, they suit your style well. Yellow is my nemesis too but with the cornflower blue they just sing of spring to me! Enjoy the day. Erin
