"But winter darkness has a positive side to it. As we gather to
celebrate the first turn from winter to spring, we are invited to
recognize and honor the beauty in the often unwanted season of winter.
Let us invite our hearts to be glad for the courage winter proclaims.
Let us be grateful for the wisdom winter brings in teaching us about the
need for withdrawal as an essential part of renewal. Let us also
encourage our spirits as Earth prepares to come forth from this time of
withdrawal into a season filled with light." from The Circle Of Life by Joyce Rupp and Macrina Wiederkehr.
We've just passed the Winter Solstice and the days will be getting longer now in the Northern Hemisphere. The trees are bare, and still I am drawn to the colors of the forests. The deep green and rich browns catch my attention everywhere I look.
These earrings are my courage of winter, my gratitude for the wisdom and my retreat from the light.
Handmade embossed copper charms have fine silver stamped rivets with tiny spirals. Paired with green African Opal stones and handmade ceramic beads by Cindy's Art & Soul. Wrapped in sterling silver, dangling from sterling silver ear wires.

Thank you for the invite here (from FB) and the quote - I happen to love winter! Driving is not so fun when it's nasty, but the cozy warmth of home and hearth make this time something to be treasured to me. I love sweaters, candles, and crockpots full of yummy soup - all things I don't really partake of in the warmer months. Actually the older I get, the more I treasure each season at it comes - both on the calendar and in life - wish I could have told my younger self that ;o) I love your work - you have a wonderful eye and a creative flair - I am blessed to own a pair of your earrings - thanks for sharing your gifts with the world!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful quote and beautiful earrings! I always adore your metal work. I am one of those odd balls that actually love winter.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful quote Cindy! Thanks for sharing. Love the earrings too. Love the rustic feel, the forest feel to these earrings. I too love the forests. Wish I could see them more often! Your beads are beautiful! I too love winter and everything about it! Thanks for sharing that!
ReplyDeleteWonderful post and earrings, Cindy! Despite feeling the effects of S.A.D. in the winter, I still love winter :)
ReplyDeleteThe first thing I thought is that these look like little shovels! And with the wet heavy snow that we just got overnight, I would say courage is the right word for it! ;-) I love the quote you shared. To appreciate the light you have to know the darkness. Enjoy the day! Erin
ReplyDeleteLove those earrings! The little swirl detail on the copper "shovel" adds a special little touch and I adore those muted green beads. Just beautiful! The quote is right on point too!
ReplyDeleteI really love the little swirl detail on the textured curved charms too... it just adds that perfect touch :)
DeleteWhat a lovley post! And the earrings...stunning!
ReplyDeleteYou have definitely captured the broody hues of winter! These are wonderful--your copper charms are fascinating, I love the detail (very woody, the swirl the like a burl on a tree). I notice where I live that the conifers turn almost black in the winter--such a dark green you almost can't detect it. And then in the summer the green comes alive again. It's like they even draw in their color in the winter, to recharge it for the coming spring. I'm not generally a fan of winter either (the whole wet/cold thing is a drag) but I am a well-practiced withdrawer and a firm believer in fallow seasons. In that respect I find winter very restful, especially since my boyfriend is the one doing all the shoveling.
