The reason I use so much green and brown in my work... Earth. I just came to realize it. I always go back to the green. It doesn't sell well, it's not popular, but it's what I love.
I stopped in a bead shop in Portland the other day. Not intending to SHOP but I did, shop. Found so many beautiful dirty, matte, rustic strands of really old looking new beads. I don't think these will last long for me- I have ideas for all of them already.
My first set, a pair of earrings with African glass, Tibet agate and some California beach glass I picked up earlier this year while on vacation.
I don't know if it's PC to like your own work, but I love how these turned out. Really love the GREEN and *Earthy brown agate together.
Just listed these today on my new website at www.ArtandSoulJewelry.COM

Do you pick out the outfit first or the earrings?

gorgeous earrings. I especially love the shape of the beach glass. do you drill it yourself?
ReplyDeleteI love green as well and though, as you say, it doesn't sell well, it always garners oohs and ahhs from customers.
Hi Deb, Yes, thank you! I did drill it myself. Took some learning but I am finally comfortable with it! :-D
DeleteI'm loving everything about these: the shape of the sea glass, those beautiful agates (I want some of both of them) and your bold wire work. I hadn't realised green is generally a poor seller but it makes sense now you say it.
ReplyDeleteThank you Claire! A mentor once told me- blue sells and cats sell. But blue cats don't sell. Haaa! I have always had that in my head... :-P
DeleteGreen is my favorite color when it comes to jewelry - it goes well with almost all metal tones and compliments reds, pinks, oranges, yellows, blues and even black well. But sadly greens dont suit most skin tones and that is why they are not popular
ReplyDeleteMaybe that's it! You are right too- it does go so pretty with metals... :-)
DeleteI love the green Cindy. It's so vibrant and the contrast of the agates really make this pair of gorgeous earrings pop! Well done!
ReplyDeleteThank you for stopping by and taking the time to comment Donna! :-)
DeleteI feel exactly the same way about green! And I make a lot of green jewelry. And you're right, it's not a big seller (why does everyone love blue so much?).
ReplyDeleteBut your earrings are truly stunning - I love the green sea glass!
Funny you ask about picking out the outfit or earring first! I thought I was the only one that did that! Truth be told, most of the time I get dressed then find jewelry to match. But there are thos e times when I know what jewelry I want to wear, and build an outfit around it.
Good post!!
Thank you Cynthia! I have a few outfits that I want to make jewelry for... a khaki pair of pants with a lavender top... that will be something to build on! :-)
DeleteLOVE these earrings!! Yep, Green doesn't sell, but like you, guess what color beads I have most in my stash? Green!! I'm attracted to it and I won't stop buying it. And you know what? If the green earrings and jewelry doesn't sell well, we can always gift it to ourselves and enjoy it fully :D Fabulous beads, Fabulous work!!
ReplyDeleteThank you Nath! I am hoarding green beads- for sure! Haha!
DeleteThese earrings are so great! I tend to buy a lot of green beads because there is no shade of green I don't like, and I have lots of green clothes. I also tend toward orange. I pick an outfit and then choose jewelry that will look nice with it.
ReplyDeleteI love orange too!
DeleteSadly I have no orange or green clothes to go with my green jewelry! Need to put that on my list to do- buy some green tops! :-D
Thank you Ann!
I love them too! I'm obsessed with green myself, and often think I should try to use some other color but it's hard to get away from! I love these colors together, and they're just spectacular with the silver. Lovely design, your wire wrapping is fabulous!
ReplyDeleteIt's nice to know it's not just me. :-D Thank you for your comments!
DeleteThat is truly a gorgeous earring design---love the green sea glass! I hadn't really thought about green not selling---I do usually tend towards the blues, but usually with blue/greens like ocean shades. And I always choose my jewelry before my clothes! Lynn Carling :)
ReplyDeleteThank you Lynn! I appreciate it! I love blue too... I'm with you- ocean shades are so lovely! Any shade of ocean!
DeleteYour earrings are stunning and your new website is absolutely gorgeous! You can be proud - of both!
ReplyDeleteThank you Linda! I appreciate that very much! :-)
DeleteI love green too. You have such a great eye for design, Cindy!
ReplyDeleteThank you very much Gloria! :-)
