Rusty Green Ceramic Earrings

These earrings feature some of my newest and first ever Ceramic beads. I am having a wonderful time experimenting with glaze and texture.
Working with porcelain and making beads are not new to me. But making porcelain beads is. This will probably be a life long learning experience for me and I am ready for the challenge!

There is so much to do and so much to learn. I cannot imagine this ever getting old. We'll see.
These beads have a leafy pattern imprint and "turquoise lagoon" glaze.

I really love how the colors look rusty.
Like an old rusty green metal thing you'd see out in the woods.

Bloomin

These gorgeous Red Crusty Flowers made by HavanaBeads have inspired me more than once. I've used them numerous times in my earrings designs and I always love the end result!

This time I've attached them to really wonderful Bone Beads with Tribal Patterns running around them.

They are kind of mismatched but look so fine when put together, and I resisted the urge to put a little bit of Sari Silk on them, I like them just as they are!

I'm opening a new shop on Indimade!
Not much listed there yet but please check back, I'll be trying to add new items every day.

Between Her and the Stars

Listening to music - one of my favorite things to do when creating jewelry, cooking, sipping a glass of wine, messing around the house, you name it. I'm continually inspired by other artists, especially those whose medium is the spoken and written word. I'm a word nerd, I can't help it.

When I'm creating jewelry, many times a song lyric or a phrase from a novel will pop into my head. I often wake up with phrases floating around in my skull like a song stuck on repeat. I've made a habit of naming each of my pieces. I find it gives them a soul to inhabit, an identity, a purpose.

These particular earrings are a bit of a departure for me in that they are PINK...well, as close to pink as I'll probably ever get. They have a visceral, dreamy, desperate bleeding heart romantic quality to them. Their title was inspired by a These Immortal Souls lyric:

"Plot me a course
By Pluto and Mars
To a vanishing point
Between her and the stars"

Art inspires art inspires art...components from several crazy talented bead artists (Kimberly Rogers, Xaz Bead Company, and Diane Hawkey), music from one hell of a talented band, and jewelry from my two little hands. And the circle continues.

Have a great week <3

Embrace the Crust

Can we talk about crust for a second? Now I know what you're thinking - crust is the stuff of early mornings and dirty dishes. It shouldn't be glorified, should be swept under the rug, and should never be mentioned. I'm going to whiplash your opinions on this topic - behold a wee pair of earrings I recently made using lampwork glass beads from Kimberly Rogers of Numinosity Beads.

She describes the style of these beads as crubbly - a combination of crusty and bubbly. To me they look like the beginnings of a swirling cosmic universe.

I pulled out the caramelly ambery tones of her beads by using some Baltic amber resin chips and then added some textural play using two small "urchin" style African brass baule beads. Small little myrrh resin nubs at the bottom add a faint exotic fragrance.

These earrings make a statement without being too heavy or too over the top - they're tribal, futuristic, organic, and primitive...all at the same time.

So the next time your wrinkle your nose at the mention of crust, think twice...

Happy mid-week <3
