Hi lovely earrings lovers,

Today (well, this week, ok, maybe the past few months...) I have been engrossed in my daytime numbers work. Since last year I am the proud co-owner of a small accounting and coaching firm, me being responsible for the finance & accounting part of our clients. That means not much time for creating anymore. So, I almost forgot about my blogpost today. Suddenly I realized... wait, isn't it Thursday today? Ehh, the first Thursday of the month? Oh my goodness...blog post.., new earrings.., pictures... Luckily, I made these earrings a while back for my show next week.

Bell shaped ceramic beads by Nadia, ceramic drops by the one and only Petra Carpreau, ear wires from Lucy Haslam and some other bits and pieces.

Glass and ceramic

Hello earring friends,

Nicola Morse had a de-stash a couple of weeks ago and I was able to BIN these amazing lampwork glass beads before anyone else did. They were made by Michelle Johnston, and are in a wonderful purple and fuchsia. 

I paired them with dark gray ceramic drops which were in my recent order of ceramic gorgeousness from Petra Carpreau, some spacer lampwork glass beads from Lonely Beads, Swarovski crystal and handmade earrings from Lucy Haslam.

Tribal Fringe

Helloooo Bead Peeps!  This is a short but sweet posting today as I'm off to Bead & Button in Milwaukee, WI this morning!

True confession:  I have forgotten who made these lovely tribal ceramic connectors so If anyone can identify them, please let me know!  I've paired them with some wonderful African glass, wrapped sari silk and some vintage golden beads.

I made the fringe by recycling some scrap gold plated parts.  Originally, I was going to hang them from jump-rings but, I really wanted them splayed apart so I messy wrapped them directly to the wire connector to achieve that effect.  

Thank you for stopping by today!  Hoping to find some unusual goodies at B&B this week!  I'm also on the hunt for new tools.  Most importantly, I'm looking forward to seeing my beady tribe!

Dark hearts

Blimey...where does the time go! I know it's the beginning of March and I should be making earrings inspired by Spring. Unfortunately, I've never been terribly good at doing "seasonal"...

So these gorgeous ceramic ball and heart drops are by Petra Carpreau and they are clearly much better suited to a February post and Valentine's Day...Sorry!

The hearts have a gorgeous deep red glaze, and grungy feel to them. I thought I'd dress up the connecting bits of wire with some pretty silver seed beads to match the silver ceramic ball.

 And, of course -there have to be hoops. Beautiful dark oxidised brass hoops to frame the ceramic pretties and add some extra swing.

So there we have it! Dark hearts. Nothing to do with Spring, but I hope you like them anyway. There'll be in my showcase at the end of this month, over on The Earrings Show..

The Hagstones

💀 Hallowe'en approaches and I'm getting very excited. The grandchildren have decorated their houses and planned their outfits - the youngest is dressing as the creepy clown Pennywise so I shall be reluctant to open the door to him!

On the eve itself Helen Backhouse, Lucy Haslam and I are having  a little event in our Facebook group where we take everyone on a virtual trip up Pendle Hill. Pendle was the home of the famous Lancashire Witches; the trials of the Pendle Witches at Lancaster Castle in  1612 are amongst the most famous witch trials in English history. Helen can see Pendle from her home and I'm about 20 minutes drive away, so it's a very real place to us, and has been since I read Harrison Ainsworth's 1849 novel The Lancashire Witches when I was about 11. 

So we've been making witchy things, and these are one of mine - The Hagstones. Hagstones were stones with natural holes in them, nailed up over stable doors in order to stop the hags (witches) from riding their horses out. And they're still in  evidence today on many farms. Old superstitions die hard. 

 

 

The spikes and gilded 'hagstone' connectors are ceramics by the one and only Petra Carpeau - who better, for gothic grunge? With Lucy Haslam's tangled earwires, swarowski crystals and gold seed beads.

In the night sky

Hello!
So the nights are drawing in, and what better way to mark this than with some celestial beauties by the goddess that is Petra Carpreau of Scorched Earth!

Petra sometimes includes beautiful little porcelain stars and moons in her updates, and I always look forward to stocking up on these when they appear. These beautiful little stars with aqua glazed porcelain are just gorgeous! I matched them with my current favourite African spacers, punctuated by teeny tiny turquoise seeds. I finished these with another silver spacer and sterling earwires. I wanted them to be quite long and stacked. Simple, but striking.

This second pair had little crescent moons as well as  stars. I used the same components as with the first pair, but went for a different design. Oxidised brass geometric hoops  provide a frame for these stellar beauties. I may be keeping them for myself...or there'll be making an appearance at my next showcase over on the Jewellery Show in Facebook Land at the end of the month. Stacked earrings

Hello hello hello *waiving like some sort of possessed woman*, how are you all doing? I hope you are enjoying a wonderful day, with sunshine and laughter.

Last Monday I had an earring show on Facebook, which "forced" me to finally sit down and make earrings. Hence the "possessed" woman. Yep, I went on a wild earring creating frenzy.  
No time to eat, no time for grocery shopping, just bead bead bead.  And buy buy buy LOL, Because, hey, I was planning to sell earrings, meaning I could use that money to buy new beads. Upfront of course, as I "needed" them to make the earrings for the show. Hubby mumbled a bit in the corner about the illogical thinking and already having more beads than I could ever use. Well, what does he know. Everybody understands a jewelry designer needs beads. Right? Right? Right! And no, I am NOT a bead hoarder. Really, I am not. One day I am going to use them all. Really.

Well, enough of the rambling, it is time to show you some of my creations. I love stacked earrings and I so admire the work of our own Malin de Koning, the stacked earring queen.

Here are some of the pairs. using most Czech glass beads. Of which one can never have enough. Right? Right!

And here a stacked pair with some beautiful ceramic charms made by Petra Carpreau of Scorched Earth and tiny birdies made by Karen Trezise from Ditsy Blue Beads. And of course ear wires made by Lucy Haslam from Faerystones.

Vestiges

Hello - It's been a while! I had to drop out of writing regular posts because I needed to find some more hours in my days. But, I'm filling in today, and it's nice to be back, albeit briefly. The Earrings Everyday team is so packed with talent right now, and I had the rare pleasure, earlier this month, to meet one of the other team members, the marvellous Kimberly Rodgers.

Here I am with Kim and that wonder woman, Petra Carpreau. This was a real rare treat and we had a fabulous time. And, Kimberly kindly came bearing beads, including some of her much sought after enamel components. So, I thought, today, that I'd share a new pair of earrings featuring some of Kimberly's work.

I've had these dagger shaped droppers for a little while. I actually made the wire frames up top for a different pair of earrings but the design didn't hang right; then I remembered these enamel pieces. I filled the frame with some yak bone beads, some grungy metal barrels, and some mismatched seeds; then I added some slinky chain dangles for a bit of extra interest.

Living By The Water

Two pairs of earrings from me today! A little while back I made a pair of earrings combining some Scorched Earth decal droppers with some lovely feathers that I've been hoarding for some time. I was pleased with the design and they sold quickly. I still had a few pairs of feathers left and when Petra listed some earring charms with feather decals, I knew just what to do with them.

I love the fluffy, downy, afterfeathers on this pair; they look almost like fur. The next ones are slightly smaller.

I've been doing a lot of rearranging in my flat in the last week or so.  Whilst about it, I came across an old compilation cd that I've been hunting for, for an age. Inevitably, I've been listening to it quite a bit since it turned up. These earrings have a certain feel to them but I haven't really found the word for it. However, this Anne Briggs song seems somehow in tune with their spirit.

Enigmatique Figurations by Kimberly Rogers

When a person find that they have a backlog of magnificent handmade artisan components the compulsion is to save them and admire the ever growing collection. I happen to have two seasonal studios and thus two burgeoning stashes mind you!

To beat this compulsion I endeavored to use up as many pairs of Petra's ScorchedEarth pieces as I could in a sitting.

Now Petra's pieces are pretty popular with us designers for their unique and earthy style so I wanted to add something different to the mix.

Suddenly I came across this other stash of druzy geode slices that I had carefully picked through at the Tucson Gem and Mineral show last winter.

I was super excited to create a collection, a series that would highlight both elements.

"Enigmatique Figurations" were born!

Long and dangly, neutral but with lots of gleam and sparkle, earthy and organic.

I finished them off with some short and simple earwires from Lucy Haslam's Faerystones shop.

Banded

This is my ninth post for this blog and it's odd, for me, that this is the first time I've shared a pair of earrings featuring Scorched Earth elements.

It's odd because a large number of my designs, and particularly earring designs, feature Petra's ceramics.  Many of her pieces are sold in pairs that demand to be made into earrings.  And I'm sure that, in working with Petra's pieces, I've learnt a heap of earring-making lessons.  Perhaps, in holding off, I was trying to avoid being predictable, because I'm kinda addicted to them really.  You can see the extent of my problem here....

In this pair, I've teamed these gorgeous rich turquoise and bronze bands with some long drops of ruby zoisite, some antique brass caps, and some little czech glass accents.  I received the stones through error - the supplier sent me somebody else's order. I'm not crazy about ruby zoisite, to be honest, but I'm quite happy with these, and that, in no small part, is down to Petra's lovely ceramics.

No Tea and Crumpets for Me

Spike Earrings

It is off the beaten path that we find the most interesting people, places and experiences. When we are not concerned with what everyone else is doing or wearing or eating, we are likely to discover something that would otherwise have escaped us. With a long holiday weekend coming up, maybe we should think about where everybody isn't going as our destination?

In these earthy Bohemian earrings, I use Czech glass, brass, copper and gorgeous primitive ceramic components from Petra Carpreau of Scorched Earth on Etsy. I don't know whether Petra likes tea and crumpets; I just love her work.
