Mod Moons

Hello, Beady Peeps!  

I've been working on Autumn designs for an upcoming show and so I thought I'd give you a sneak peek of one of my favorite pairs.

 

Rustic blackened discs with magnificent enameled silvery moons and golden halos, by Anne Gardanne.

As much as they are rustic, they are equally modern as well.  So, I decided to add some irregular handmade copper rings for perfect visual balance and a striking look without overpowering the charms themselves.  The creamy background adds a lot of visual weight and I truly felt adding beads would just ruin the beautiful lines.  If you can't already tell, I'm sorta crazy about these - or should I say "over the moon"?

Simple, But Significant

Hello, friends!

This past week I've been working on a few projects and in-between, have also been playing around with random things living on my worktable.  So, for this blog post, I have an eclectic mix for you.

I may have mentioned in past posts one of my favorite quotes from Mad Men: "Make it simple, but significant."...you'll probably hear it from me again down the road because it's become my mantra.

Lovely artisan enameled discs by Anne Gardanne and wire wrapped fiber cocoons by Anna Pierson.

Outstanding lampwork headpins by Kimberly Rogers that I've looped and added tiny vintage Miriam Haskell wood beads to.  The wood beads were surprisingly delicate to work with, perhaps due to their age.  They are well worth the risk, as they are beautiful.

Vintage Japanese opal glass with delicate frit.  I added artisan hollow glass dangles to the bottom.  I am embarrassed to say I cannot remember the name of the glass artist but I will try to find out and update my info so bear with me!

Thinking about Spring in January gets me through the winter!

So, how do you like these flirty-girls?  Aren't they sweet?!!

I picked out these lovely vintage petal-shaped sequins from Andrew Thornton and William Jones of Allegory Gallery last summer (they still have them in stock, FYI).  I also purchased them in pink and yellow but my studio seems to have swallowed them up whole and I can't find them at the moment! *sigh

The top Robin's-egg blue, rustic enamel flower wheels, were made by Susan Kennedy of Suebeads.

Transparent sequins in mint green with a lovely pastel iridescent cast.  The quality of vintage sequins is wonderful.

The beautiful pod-like handcrafted enamels were made by Anne Gardanne.

On darker backgrounds and/or in a certain light, the pinks show up! This photo shows all the layers fanned out. When it is worn it hangs straight down.

Spring Blossoms

It's been a lovely sunny few days up here in the north of England  (if still a trifle chilly) and that's reflected in my choice of colours for this weeks post. I have a bowl of double red tulips just coming out - so sunshine and tulips!

The enamel rings with flower burst murrini are by Kaz Baildon; the enamelled red beadcaps by Anne Gardanne. Rustic yellow Czech glass forms the inner bud and also the drops on the end of the chain.
