Tropical Tassels

My husband and I are looking into the possibility of tropical getaway, later this summer. The past 2 years have presented many challenges - and not the good kind. We're thinking that some R & R might be just what we need most at this point.
My earrings, today, reflect these dreams of escape.  The turquoise echoes the beautiful Caribbean waters.
And although the shape of the flower is different, the color of the flower beads was close enough to make me think of Bird of Paradise flowers -- I know that is a bit of a leap of the imagination, but I *really* want to escape to paradise!

These earrings are really fun to wear, even if you wear them to the grocery store, rather than while walking on a tropical beach.  The tassels have a fun swishing movement that makes me happy!
R & R can be found in your own backyard or at a neighborhood barbeque! What are your plans for the summer?
The Tropical Tassel Earrings are available in my shop.

Escape to a Tropical Paradise

Heyyyyy..... it's been awhile! I'm so happy to finally feel well enough to make an appearance here.

I've missed you all very much. My battle isn't over, but at least I'm making enough progress to start hanging out with you here again, and that makes me VERY happy!

For the past 9 months, you could say that both my hubby and I have been 'surviving' life rather than 'living' life. As we were watching the finale of the Alone tv show last week, one of the contestants was talking about the difference between being in survival mode vs living life mode.

That's how I feel. I've been in survival mode for 9 months now, and attempting to insert a bit of 'living life' here and there - and to me, that means getting creative again!

So I'm thrilled to say that I've been able to make some Mokume Gane Polymer Clay earrings components such as these, recently:

I love the look of Mokume Gane, don't you? It kind of reminds me of Australian Opals with the layers and colors. I just get giddy inside when I see these :)

The metal leaf (gold in this case) and various layers of translucent clay and colored clay blend together to make a unique rustic chic look that I love. It's random and once I apply several coats of clear varnish, the layers and colors just pop.

My mother-in-law and I were talking that we'd love to go on a trip to Hawaii (she's been there, I haven't) one day when we're all feeling a lot better (gotta have a goal in life, right?), so I made these earrings thinking of escaping to Hawaii:

Rustic Chic "Escape to a Tropical Paradise" Earrings, featuring my handmade Mokume Gane polymer clay components, with a rustic messy 14kt gold-filed wire wrap, Swarovski Crystals, gorgeous Czech Glass beads from my friend Jac at Sugabeads (she has awesome supplies!), and set on hypoallergenic Titanium ear hooks.

You can see these earrings and more of my handmade jewelry components in My Garden Of Love Etsy Shop HERE.

Thanks so much for stopping by! Have a wonderful weekend!

I'm Thinkin Spring Break

Orange Polymer Clay Earrings with Turquoise

After an especially cold and snowy winter, visions of Spring Break are dancing in my head. My vision of Spring Break is definitely a toned down version, without all of the hedonism of youth. Just laying on a beach soaking up the sun, relaxing with a fruity tropical drink, and recharging my creative batteries - that's what we all need this time of year!

To capture that mood in my earring design, I use orange polymer clay charms that I have stamped with a sun pattern and colored with gilder's paste to add dimension. To the charms, I added nuggets of turquoise and Greek barrel shaped copper beads, that are stacked and wrapped with copper wire.

My sunny vacation is only in my thoughts for now, but soon . . .

Daydreaming of the Tropics

My defense mechanism for dealing with post holiday slump, frigid weather and tax headaches is to daydream about a warm beach in the tropics. That perfect place in my memory where I am relaxed and rested, where there is someone to oblige my every whim. I can take all the time I need to dress up and do my hair, or just spend the entire day in a swim suit and feel the warm sand between my toes. Who wants to share my fantasy?

These earrings are designed to capture some of that care free tropical mood. Bright lime green colored leaf drops by White Clover combine with blue sea glass nuggets, turquoise and copper in an asymmetrical arrangement.
