Silver tassels

Hello Earring People!

Here we are in May already and despite the strange times we are living in, nature carries on doing her thing. My garden is awash with flowers and blossom at the moment (I don't really garden, so this is always a source of amazement to me).

I've been enjoying taking some time to create some jewellery this past week. This particular design has been fun to make! The first pair feature aragonite -a pretty pale yellow stone which is an earth healer, apparently and symbolises truth and understanding.

I set these in little squares of silver, which I also stamped with some simple pretty lines and added the silver tassels to finish them off.

This next pair feature turquoise cabochons, and honestly -who doesn't love turquoise and silver? Such a pretty combination. And it is supposed to bring calmness and serenity, so what's not to love? I kept the setting simple for these and kept the focus on the stones, with tassels for extra prettiness.

These will both be in my nextshowcase over on The Jewellery Show at the end of May. I'll be back in a couple of weeks.

Stay safe and well

Ferris Wheel Tassels

When you buy faceted gemstone briolettes the strands often come with matching tassels on the ends, which I save. Today's earrings upcycle some tassels from a strand of carnelian briolettes.
I paired the orange tassels with a pair of my ceramic Ferris Wheel components. Between the ceramic connectors and the tassels I have bronzy-orange Czech glass flowers, silver spacers and Swarvoski crystals.  These earrings are really long, but I figured that this way I can give them a "haircut" to any length the purchaser desires. Don't you think these would be fun, swinging from your ears, on a sunny day?
See you in April.

Teal Tassels

I have a small hoard collection of enameled cones from Sue Beads and thought I'd use a pair for today's earrings.
The cones are enameled in teal, with hints of green and maybe even a little golden yellow. I paired them with mint green and light turquoise crystals. They turned out quite elegantly, with their sparkling crystals and silver lined teal seed beads.
The Teal Tassel earrings are available at Linda Landig Jewelry.
See you in two weeks.

Tropical Tassels

My husband and I are looking into the possibility of tropical getaway, later this summer. The past 2 years have presented many challenges - and not the good kind. We're thinking that some R & R might be just what we need most at this point.
My earrings, today, reflect these dreams of escape.  The turquoise echoes the beautiful Caribbean waters.
And although the shape of the flower is different, the color of the flower beads was close enough to make me think of Bird of Paradise flowers -- I know that is a bit of a leap of the imagination, but I *really* want to escape to paradise!

These earrings are really fun to wear, even if you wear them to the grocery store, rather than while walking on a tropical beach.  The tassels have a fun swishing movement that makes me happy!
R & R can be found in your own backyard or at a neighborhood barbeque! What are your plans for the summer?
The Tropical Tassel Earrings are available in my shop.

Belt It Out!

I am participating in a upcycled art show in February.  A friend gave me an old belt of her husband's, that I might use as a base for a bracelet, for the show.  But in the meantime, I decided to do a little warm-up practice and make a pair of earrings with a section of the belt.
On the left, you can see that the belt was in really bad shape.  The woven pieces were so worn out, that they were useless.  So I decided to see what would happen if I removed them.  To my surprise, there was the underlying structure you see on the right, above.  All those holes!  Oooo!  I knew I could use those.  Each of my earrings today, consist of a strip of belt, containing two small holes and one larger hole.
I attached my ceramic ovals to the upper small hole.  The glaze I used on the ovals turns green and blue in random places during firing, so each piece is always unique. Then, I created dark green tassels to dangle from the lower hole. I finished them off with handmade brass ear wires.
On a different note - Washington and Oregon were blessed with rain today after several dry months and terrible wildfires.  The fires are not only devastatingly destructive, but the smoke has caused lung and eye problems as well.  My heart goes out to everyone who has experienced the opposite problem, with torrential rains and tornadoes.  Stay safe friends.

Trash Transformed - having a go.

Earlier in the month Erin set us all the challenge of transforming 'trash' - something that would otherwise go into the bin - into earrings. I don't know about you, but I'm an innate hoarder of 'stuff that may come in useful one day' - especially with four grandchildren to entertain. And over the years, I've been very grateful for 'stuff' that I could have thrown away and haven't.

Cards, pictures, collages, bits of practice sewing. It's all found a home. But earrings?  A little bit harder.

But....I received some strings of opal a few weeks ago from my friend Lucy. They had these dinky silky tassels attached to the ends and, loathe to throw them away, they had gone into my  'textiles, ribbons and sari silk ' box.

Stick a wire through the loop at the top, thread through a copper cone, add a matching (or contrasting?) crystal, loop and voila! A pair of cool, swingy tassel earrings in absolutely no time at all. Easy.

So, by the end of May - bring out your trash and let's see what you can do!
