Hi again - it's February already!
Welcome to my current obsession - sourcing old necklaces and chopping them up for interesting components. I have a stash of old necklaces left by my mum, who used to haunt antique shops and wander around flea markets looking for old broken necklaces to repurpose, so I guess it's in the genes. But hers are mainly old Victorian glass, pearls etc and although I often use them, I'm looking for something a little more eclectic. This week, it's old yak bone from Tibet.
In the pair above, I've used old yak bone tubes above elephant ceramics by Majoyoal and wrapped the ends of the tubes with gorgeous recycled sari silk in deep blue, embroidered in scarlet and secured with vintage bronze wire. The earwires are handmade brass.
My second pair have wonderful deeply carved and aged yak bone beads, spacers and bronze wavy discs with tribal faces that Helen Backhouse moulded in polymer clay from a piece of wall art I have. Great job too!
These two pairs will be in my Etsy shop, should you want either. Thankyou as always for visiting Earrings Everyday - we are always so happy to see you. And I'll see you again, in a couple of weeks.

Treasures, Old and New
Recently when I was cleaning in my office, I was putting things back on shelves, taking things off shelves that didn't belong there, and straightening things on the shelves. At some point, I stopped tidying and started looking through the drawers and boxes of artisan-made ceramic beads I've collected over the years.
There were so many beautiful pieces, from delicate porcelain charms to large carved and vividly colored tribal style beads. I really did have all the best intentions of finishing up the cleaning I'd started, but I found myself picking up beads I hadn't seen in a while, turning them over in my hands, reacquainting myself with them.
From that point, it was on. Once I'd finally determined what all the components were going to be (Karen Totten's green spiral ceramic beads, Judie Mountain's ceramic faces, an oval copper connector, a scalloped ceramic ring also by Karen) all that was left was putting them together. I really had fun making these rustic and whimsical and asymmetrical pretties.
Thanks so much for reading! I won't be here for my next scheduled time (October 24) because my husband and I will be in Hawaii to celebrate our son's wedding. 💗 But I'll be back.
I hope you and yours are all well. Have a Happy Hallowe'en!

When I got to my stash of beads by Karen Totten (one of my favorite artisans), I saw a pair of beautiful green spiral connector beads I'd had for quite a few years. I turned them over and looked closely at them and wondered what if I paired them with rustic, whimsical ceramic faces I'd bought from artisan Judie Mountain in Tucson this past winter? 💗

Ancient Faces
Hello!
So I made these earrings a few days ago. I was hoping to create something brand new today, but completely ran out of time, but I'm happy to make these the star of the show!
There are lots of jewellery components featuring faces at the moment. None more beautiful (in my opinion!) than Natalie of Peruzi's. These exquisite faces are made from polymer clay and have a beautifully bleached, ancient look. There is some pretty orange mosaic detailing at the top of the faces, which I matched with beautifully rich amber rondelles
I've framed the faces with two different kinds of brass hoops, and added some pretty, rustic indonesian beads
So that's it from me for a couple of weeks! These pretties will be available at the end of the month over on The Earrings Show in Facebook Land :-)
