Winging It.

Nights are starting to draw in - candles are being lit in our conservatory again. I'm not seeing many butterflies now, but plenty of moths and the occasional bat flying past if I'm wandering in the garden later on, the flutter of a dark wing heralding their presence.

Wings - such a popular concept to design with. Bright and summery, dark and gothic, or all stages in between.  This week I'm sharing these stunning porcelain wings by  Mari Carmen Rodriguez Martinez - right up my street. Great shape, great colours, fabulous detail, slight asymmetry - and they can be any wing you want them to be - from butterfly to dragon!

With them I've used  lovely copper leaf headpins by Cecilia Lawrence, purple lava beads and some faceted picasso czech glass beads that perfectly echo the creamy green and toffee colours in the wings.  Hung on Faerystone beaten copper earwires. Yum - they'll take you nicely into autumn, through Halloween (just for Loralee!) and into Winter.

Have you worn wing earrings or used wings in your designs this year? So versatile and feminine (even these - with a wee bit of edge to them. )

See you in two weeks - enjoy the last of the school holidays!

Glorious 🦋 wings

Hi everyone.  Today's post is all about resin wing earrings.  I love these so much...I actually love all wing charms, I have quite a stash of all things 'wingy', made of various mediums including enamel, glass, polymer, ceramic and resin.  Today's post is about resin wings.  These particular ones featured in my earrings are by Susan Linda Stokes of Art & Soul Studios.

Lets start with a group shot because it looks really good when I share the link on Facebook 😎.

I wanted the resin wings to stand out so I made them up in one of my signature designs but in a much simpler manner.  In this pair I added pink seed beads to pick up the pink/purple on the wings.  Not too over the top and quite apt for autumn?

There had to be an all purple pair.  Who doesn't like purple!  Same design as before but I kept it all purple with a little addition of turquoise seeds to break it up ever so slightly.

And a third pair in a different design.  Did you notice how sari silk (and sari trimming on the third pair) have snuck their way into all these earrings.  That massive stash of all things fabric is proving to be very useful right now.

I'm planning on doing a big Etsy shop update sometime next week.  These plus more will become part of that update....as long as my plan works 😅

See you again soon.

Love Hearts

Seeing as it's Valentine's Day next week I thought I'd pull out all of my 💜 beads and make a collection of ðŸ’œ earrings.  That was the plan anyway.  I started on this pair (below) and it took me all day, in between dealing with a very restless 2 month old, to make just 1 pair. By then I'd lost interest in making more heart earrings so I just played for a bit and made the rest.  Hope you like them :).

Polymer hearts by Areto Beads.

Resin/paint and copper charms by Nicola Morse.

I have lost count of how many times I've made this design 😂 but I'm still enjoying making them so that's a good thing.  Resin/paint/copper charms by Nicola Morse and lampwork by GlassBeadArt.

and these, more simple compared to the rest but the colours went so well I didn't want to spoil them with more additions.

That's the lot for today.  I might list them on Etsy next week, if not they will be available in my next FB show in the Earrings Show group.

See in a couple of weeks time.

Lampwork bell caps

I was lucky enough to snag some of Elaine Thornton's bell cap beads as they tend to go pretty quick. Here's a quick collage of most of the caps I got. I knew exactly how I wanted to use them.

So I painted some brass wings

and made these earrings

Red bells

Clear gold bells

Purple passion scruffy bells

Frosted ice bells

Yep all in the same design but I do love them :D hope everyone else does too <3

I did make a couple of non 'wingy' pairs

Hope you like them.  The purple pair has sold and the rest will be listed in my Etsy shop over the next few days.  See you again soon <3

Midsummer Night's Dream

I guess to deal with the cold I've been dreaming about summer and an event with a Midsummer Nights Dream theme. How lovely to think of fairies and love and mischief in a flowery English forest. Yep, that is this week's inspiration.

The earrings feature peach headpins that I made out of polymer clay, pewter wings from Green Girl Studios and Czech glass.  A few tiny peanut seed beads add just a spot of color in the middle of all those rings.

Here is a print I made a long time ago on the same theme. Funny how the same ideas turn up in all my artwork no matter the medium.

"If we shadows have offended,
Think but this, and all is mended,
That you have but slumbered here
While these visions did appear.
And this weak and idle theme,
No more yielding but a dream"
-William Shakespeare

Have a great weekend!
