JUST DUCKY!

Thank goodness March has finally arrived because I am more than ready for Spring! In deciding what to feature in today’s post, I thought I would start with one of the pairs of colorful copper enamel charms that I’ve been making for an upcoming components show. Although Spring means pretty flowers, puppies, bunnies, and chicks, I wanted to do something just a bit different while still keeping with my theme. I thought of my daughter’s HUGE rubber duck collection and found that to be the perfect inspiration!

I started with these unique, copper enameled black rubber duckies, covered in brightly colored POLKA DOT(LOVE me some polka dots). The next step was to go through my ever-growing bead stash to decide which of the polka dot colors to choose for the matching beads. I was leaning toward a pair of bright orange hollow beads over a pair of sparkly lime green donut beads, when I spotted another pair on my bead table that I knew would be the winner- a totally fun pair from Petra Marikova – a black base, completely covered in tiny colorful bumps – like falling in a bucket of candy sprinkles!

The only thing left to do was add a few colorful wavy spacers, some Vintaj black metal caps, copper caps, and a pair of fancy copper ear wires…WAY TOO FUN! What do you think? Too many polka dots? (said no one, EVER!)

These earrings will appear later today in my etsy shop, TwinklingOfAnEye.

You can find other earrings in my fb group.

Thanks for spending a part of your day with me - see you in a few weeks! :-)

Rainbow Hares

Continuing with the rainbow theme this week I painted brass shields in rainbow colours and brass hares in purple and rose gold.

I attached both painted parts with wire and seed beads.

To keep the focus on the hares and the bright background, I added purple flower dangles to the bottom.

Hope you like the finished item.  I actually have quite a few of these painted bits to put together as they are meant to be part of my next components show.  These are available on Etsy.
Thank you for looking and I will see you in April.

Mermaids....are not just for summer

I've just finished a trunk show for earrings only so earrings were probably the last thing I wanted to make even though I do love making them...I was a bit earring-d out if you know what I mean.  I looked at some of my own components that never made it to the show as earrings.  I had planned on making several mermaid earrings but ended up only making one pair for the Trunk show.  But I did paint several pairs so there were quite a few left overs to choose from.

Here is how I turned them in to earrings.

I wire wrapped them on to big hoops, chose dark sapphire cup chain to match the scales and matte gold seeds to echo the golden upper part of the mermaid.

As these hoops were quite substantial in size (30mm) I knew I couldn't add any big beads to go between the hoop and the ear wire. I wire wrapped brass hearts in a central position so I could just attach some ear wire directly on to them.  I did that but the earrings did not look or feel right....something was missing.

I picked up these blue glass flowers which were the perfect size and attached them to the hearts.  Now they were complete.

This was the only mermaid pair I made for the show.  Here I painted the mermaids in rainbow colours, applied resin on the rainbow area and sprinkled some glitter for fun.  I hung them from brass connectors which I had wire wrapped with glass spikes, flowers and crown caps.

I hope you like my efforts.  The first pair is now listed on Etsy.  Have a fab weekend <3

Colour Me Happy

I was lucky enough to snag some Regis Teixera beads recently and here is how I interpreted them.  In the last year or so I moved away from my usual bold colours to more subtle tones. I missed my colours and Regis' beads were a perfect excuse to start playing around with colours again.  I think I still held back but I like what I've come up with and hope you do too.

First up are these.  I had the opportunity to play with so many colours but I held back a little to make the beads be the focus.  I wire wrapped hoops in teal with a hint of black and purple, hanging from these are brass flower blanks which I wire wrapped using single rhinestones (in brass settings) in dark teal(ish) and purple seeds.

For this pair I simply wire wrapped some hoops in turquoise and amber (gold).  Originally I had layered the hoops with resin charms.  They looked ok but I felt that the hoops needed to be smaller to make them look perfect.  Sorry I didn't take a photo of the original pair.  As I didn't have time to wrap a smaller pair of hoops, I decided to improvise.  I got rid of the resin charms and what I was left with is pictured below.  Short, simple yet statementastic (I think)

And lastly these.  I painted these brass wings last year in rainbow colours but never got round to using them.  I painted filigree brass bits in black, gold and Verdigris, wire wrapped hoops in purple and turquoise and assembled everything.

These earrings will be available in my next online show in the FB group The Jewellery Show on Monday.  Hope you can join me.  See you in a couple of weeks time.
