Wire Wrapping

Hello!!! It's my first post as a regular contributor to the Earrings Everyday blog.  I'm super excited to be here :).  So I'll just get on with showing you what I've made.

I chose to work with these enamel charms by Darlene Fortier-House.  I have been wire wrapping a LOT these last few months and naturally these would feature a lot of wrapping.

I decided to wrap 6 brass rings matching the colours of those dots above - as closely as possible and arranged them as per the next picture.

I've also added teeny brass seeds on to the jump rings.

These earrings are pretty long at nearly 4 3/4" from top of the ear wire to the bottom of the charms so I decided to leave them as they are.  I was tempted to add more......

Thank you for reading. See you again soon.

Suhana :) <3

These earrings are now listed in my etsy shop Buttoned Up Beads

Two is Better Than One

Just a quick little post today folks ☺ but I think its a good one. Once again, I wanted to share with you a design that I happen to stumble upon this past week that I'm pretty excited about.

Double drilled beads can be quite a challenge to work with, they are great for bracelets, but singly....hummmm?  I just happen to thread some thin leather cord through the holes and realized I had a ready made hoop to hang what ever my little heart desired.  From there I discovered I could also utilize tiny silver bails that hug the stone when pulled tight with the leather.  It adds nice character and loop for hanging glass or charms too.  If your eco-friendly and leather is not your thing, hemp, wax cord or even wire could be substituted as well.

Hope this brings some new ideas into your creative time if you have any double drilled beads laying around.  I was almost ready to ditch them, so glad I didn't, now I'm on the search for more, ☺

Enjoy your day, thanks for stopping by and we will see you again in two weeks!!

A light bulb moment

Not sure why I still do it, as it doesn’t work at all for me, but I tend to leave things until the last moment.
A long time ahead I think about the tasks to be done. And in my head I already “know” how to do them, how much time it will costs me and what the end result will be. In an ideal world of course. It rarely works out that way. For me at least.

When it comes down to designing I have written down my ideas or sketched some rough designs as soon as they pop up in my head. In an ideal world of course. Sadly, not my reality. At all.

So, yesterday afternoon I sat in front of my precious beads. Typical. No inspiration. None what so ever. After about 2 hours staring in space I started fiddling around with some new headpins I bought from Jennie Yip.

Then it struck: a light bulb moment.
I guess that’s why these cuties look like tiny light bulbs, grin.

Handmade lampwork glass headpins by Jennie Yip (Icedmoments). Check out her shop. She is based in my home country The Netherlands and she is making delicious lampwork beads.
I combined them with sterling silver beads, sterling silver earring hoops and brass rings with a lovely copper green patina, mirroring the color in the glass head pins.

And I had enough inspiration to make a second pair. These are available in my shop.

Thank you so much for visiting and I hope to see you again in 2 weeks. I love to read your comments, so don't be shy. I wish you a wonderful day with lots of joy, sunshine, happiness and light bulb moments.

Copper Flowers in Bloom

I created these blooms in copper. I started by shaping and texturing copper sheet. Then I added a blue/green patina. These remind me of weathered finds in a long-forgotten garden. Small Czech beads add a tiny pop of color to mirror the patina.

Enjoy each summer bloom, this season fades in a flash!

A Little Glamour, A Little Crackle

I've been messing around with polymer clay quite a bit lately and my favorite thing to make is headpins. The earrings are nearly complete and I find just adding an accent bead or two is enough to make a statement.
These are lightweight enough that  anyone can wear them. Seems I have a few seniors that are finding that heavy earrings are a problem for them.
These are made with real copper leaf and are reminiscent of the ulu cutting tools that the Inuit use here in Alaska

You can find some other shapes and sizes of my polymer headpins in my Etsy shop
Sorry for the quickie post  but I'm out the door to our farmers market 100 miles from here to see if I can sell some more earrings!
Thanks,
Kimberly Rogers

"NeoTribal"

Hello! I do hope you are all enjoying the summer.

A friend I met through Etsy, Susan Delphine Delaney, sent a pin to me the other day with the title being NeoTribal, saying she liked the word as a descriptor. To my chagrin a few moments later, I said I don't really know what that means. She responded, oh, I just took it to mean New Tribal. duh. . . . right? Of course it's New Tribal! So that sparked the idea to make tribal-like earrings for today's post. As I was working I started to think about what really was traditional tribal jewelry, specifically traditional tribal earrings. I did not have a real vision of what it was. I did some searching (I admit, not a lot) for tribal jewelry. I expected it to be an easy search with a plethora of images. Not so.
Fulani
Maasai

The two photos are of African earrings. Two very different styles. The colorful beaded earrings are 9 1/2 inches long, and were made in Africa by the Maasai people. The gold and cotton earrings, also from Africa, made by the Fulani people. These two photos are from the Metropolitan Museum of Art. They are early 20th century.

I searched then for Native American Jewelry. This photo came from the website http://www.beyondbuckskin.com in a section called Ancient Southwest Jewelry. The dates of these earrings are, starting from the top, 1100-1200 CE, (common era), the 1800s, and 1978. Beautiful mosaic inlay of Turquoise. So a lot of Turquoise and Silver was mostly what I found, again, on a cursory search.

So I now have some real curiosity to dig deeper when I have the time to see what I can find.

1.

2.
Just briefly then, my earrings today: 1. "Bone" ceramic sticks, as well as ceramic beads from the same strand, paired with Red Creek Jasper, various metal beads, copper wire and Niobium ear wires. Ceramics by Andrea Salkowe of Josephine Beads. I love this pair. . but I ended up not listing it. There was more I would have liked to do with them, a basic jumping off point, but they were getting too heavy. I will likely take them apart and start again.

2.  I think these are my favorites. :) The ceramic focals are by Petra Carpreau of ScorchedEarthOnEtsy. Paired with Ceramics from the same strand as No. 1. Natural Sig-Id Vine beads are wrapped to the black dagger-shaped Sgraffito focals with waxed Irish linen. I didn't use any wire in this design, just the linen. There are natural, rustic Turquoise bi-cone beads, topped with a red glass bead. The linen was knotted to a Tierra Cast copper-plated spacer bead. The dangles at the bottom contain green turquoise glass beads, tea-stained bone beads, and vintage Kuchi/Kochi tribal clapperless bells.

3. The last pair, both ceramic elements were made by Georgia Neumann of AtHomeInTaos. I used various copper beads, ball-tip headpins I made from copper, Czech glass beads, more copper wire, Niobium ear wires, and a tiny brass teardrop.

3.
If you ever have any questions at all about techniques and/or processes, please just message me through my Etsy shop. It's great fun to look at other people's work for inspiration, or when looking to purchase. But if there is anything I can help you with that you see in these earrings, please just let me know.

As always, I appreciate your taking the time to stop by. All feedback/comments are welcome. In fact, we'd appreciate it!

Thank you! I'll be back the first Tuesday in August. I do hope the rest of July is joyful!

Vintage Velocipedes

Hi there, I hope you are all having a great summer whereever you are in the northern hemisphere, and a great winter if you are in the southern. I myself have been enjoying cosy day excursions so far, and sitting on the veranda in my back garden. Later in the summer I will be going away on a little trip to the south of Sweden.

Bicycling has always been a favourite thing of mine. As a child and teenager it was my major method of transport most of the year. If the temperature was more than 5 degrees Celsius that is. I could easily bike more than 20-30 km a day just to get to different places. I would still bike every day today if I could, but unfortunately since a few years back I have too much balance problems due to MS. I plan to get a tricycle for grown-ups though, in a not too far future. They are good, but a bit pricey, so I hope to get a contribution from a fund for people with MS.

Check out those old style bicycles on the earrings I made. High wheelers or penny farthings. They are super cool don't you agree.

Art beads:

Ceramic cone beads with a pale yellow matte glaze - NadiaTerra

We're All Ears :: July Reveal

I didn't make it to the Wausau Balloon Rally last weekend. Drats. But a local radio personality named Dave Kallaway is a mighty fine photographer when he is not on the air and he has taken some awesome shots! Check out this one... and this one... (I truly hope you can view them...) But in case you can't here is one of the inspiration pictures...

To make this quartet of earrings it was easy to find the beads. Most of my beads look like they would make great hot air balloons! But the ones that stood out to me where the ones with fun simple patterns. To make the baskets I used some beads and decorative headpins. The key is to have a little bit of space between the bottom of the bead and the top of the basket shape. I didn't want these to be too referential so that if someone is just attracted to the bright colors and patterns they don't need to know that they were created with balloons on the brain.

Golem Beads are perfect for this project. The bright colors and graphic patterns really do look like the balloons at a rally. I am always cheered when I look at Vlad's beautiful ceramic beads. How can you not smile when you see these beads or these balloons? They exude happiness.

And then I spotted some polymer clay beads from a seller who no longer makes them (Honey from the Bijoux). The stripes are really playful!

Finally, I decided to go a bit more sophisticated with the lampwork glass from Jenni Connolly. They remind me of Monet's water lilies and were a gift from the Australian artist in a Bead Soup long ago. Pairing them with a wee bit of bling peeking out with the rhinestone rondelle spacers gives them a little added sass. Just a touch.

So there you have my own little beady balloon rally. I can't wait to see what you made!

I started with one of my favorite things, headpins!!
These amazing Lampwork headpins are by Janell Nelson.

Then I stacked some Amazing Blue Keishi Pearls and wrapped some tiny little glass beads that remind me of Druzy in to a loop.

That Little Extra Touch

I wanted to share with you a little added touch I stumbled upon with some simple metal flower drops that can make a creation blossom.

Below is a before and after- I wire wrapped seed beads up the stem in a flower pattern and added enamel charms at the bottom.  You can add more decor up top or leave them as is.

I went a little crazy once I figured out the technique, the other photos show examples of more designs.  The last pic is my absolute favorite because they are just down right funky♥

Thanks for heading over here, please share a few comments if you can, and we will see you again in two weeks, ♥

Cookies and cream

Summer. Sun, sea and……ice cream.

During the 5th century BC, ancient Greeks ate snow mixed with honey and fruit in the markets of Athens. The father of modern medicine, Hippocrates, encouraged his Ancient Greek patients to eat ice "as it livens the lifejuices and increases the well-being (souce: Wikipedia).

I love ice cream. There are lots of  ice cream shops in Nafplio (Greece), the town close where we live. The beautiful display of so many delicious flavours is so so tempting. Cookies and cream is one of my favourites. As are all the chocolate varieties. Or strawberries or caramel or…… What can I say, I love ice cream. And apparently it is very good for my well-being LOL, according to Hippocrates.  And who am I to disagree with Hippocrates :-) I'm not sure he will say this regarding the current available ice cream, but hey, these are details I'm not going to worry about.
If you love ice cream, which is your favourite flavour?
